In this lecture we will track the 2000-year evolution of Yoga Tantra through India to Tibet and into our world today. Over the last 15 years the Asian Classics Input Project has been dedicated to locating, cataloguing and digitally preserving the rapidly disappearing Sanskrit and Tibetan manuscripts that hold the religious, cultural and religious heritages of South East Asia. Through this process ACIP has captured the existing cannon of the Tibetan Buddhist lineages originating from India. Most recently, we have embarked on a new challenge. We are now capturing the collection of Kashmir Shaivist Tantric palm leaf manuscripts in various locations throughout India. The precious nature of not only the yogic tradition, but also the Buddhist tradition is hinged upon our finding, inputting and translating these great works. The Vajrayana Tantric tradition that became the foremost practice in the 1000-year renaissance of Buddhism in Tibet, originated within the North and South Indian provinces as early as the 7th century. Our mission is to connect the early transmission of these esoteric lineages, the history of its ascent in Tibet and now its resurgence in the West.
